It was simple logic. She had no Captain of her own currently, so the next best thing was to train with a different Squad Captain. That is why Lapis Lazuli now found herself kneeling outside of Head-Captain Akane's office doors, flaring her Spirit Energy to signal her arrival. The idea came to her when reading over some book in the Kido Corps' library. Someone had to train her, and the Captain of Squad one would be the best choice.

She waits until she is let in before sliding the doors open and stepping in. She gives a salute before standing at ease. "Good afternoon, Head Captain. I am reporting for training, as explained in my message." Everything had been worked out over Hell Butterfly, what with how busy each person was respectively with cleanup efforts and returning to paper work. The Head Captain had been especially busy since Central 46 had yet to be reinstated. "As said in my report, I have yet to begin training for Bankai. The topic was never covered in the academy and I was told by fellow Squad members that a Squad's Captain is responsible for guiding us through the process. Clearly, my Squad is lacking a Captain."

The reconstruction efforts had been going well, small pockets of lingering enemies had been mopped up without much hassle and now the cleanup was really underway. Akane had been dealing with paperwork mostly, trying to find new members to take over the place of the losses of the Central 46 as well as step up in their efforts to reinforce their numbers. She was sure there were souls out there that would be more than worthy to make their way to the Academy... Today however, a particular shinigami had requested personal training as they had no Captain to assist them. Akane was more than happy to assist, seeing as it would get her out of the office for a time.

She responded to Lapis' entrance with a short bow of her head before she stood up "Of course, we shall get started right away. Follow me" The Captain Commander would strap her own blade to her hip and motion for Lapis to follow. It was only a short walk really, where her personal training grounds were. "To begin, I need to see what we are working with." Taking he place directly opposite her new student, Akane would draw her blade, it's own blade invisible it seemed. Moments later, Lapis would feel the crushing spiritual pressure coming from Akane, threatening to flatten her in an instant if she didn't adjust. "Your first test is to hit me, just once. Use everything you have" It was easier said than done of course, if she hadn't been floored by the sudden pressure already, she would be fighting against it the whole time.

"Of course, Head Captain." She followed her superior to their training area. As she expected, the training grounds for the First Division were certainly large. Granted, the Kidou Corps had one almost as big for the sole purpose of working out specific higher leveled Kidou. "I see. How will you be-" Her statement about being tested ended as Akane's Spirit Pressure nearly send her face down to the floor. Lapis first catches herself on her feet, making sure she didn't hit the ground. It would've been much harder to get back up. She spikes her own Spirit Pressure to help adjust. It doesn't nearly take away the weight of what was pressing down on her all that much but she felt like she could move without falling. She reaches to her side and slips out her Zanpakutou. "Flood them with an unyielding tide, Umi no Ishi!" Her blade, an impressively sized katana, changed it's form into a large polearm. She rushes right at the Captain, and with a wide swing makes her first attack. Immediately after the swing though, Lapis uses Flash Step to put some distance between the two. With one hand she points the blade of her weapon at Akane's chest. Water forms across the blade, and just as quickly is fired off of it like a projectile. This happens five more times, totaling 6 water projectiles aimed for Head Captain Akane's position. As she fires off her six Umi no Kiba, she begins a chant for Kidou. However, it wouldn't be one that the Head Captian has heard before this point.

"Ten drops fly. Rays of sunlight scatter. Divide the rain and let it fall from the heights of heaven."

Akane was impressed to see that her would-be student had managed to keep her footing, though for now she had only used a portion of her power to slow Lapis down. Watching carefully, she waited for the first attack, which seemed to be little more than a wide slash that was promptly deflected with her zanpakuto, it was almost a lazy block, though it held enough force to make the blade miss entirely. It wasn't the most impressive start to be sure, though Akane herself favored a speedy first-strike, in this case it simply wasn't enough to catch her off guard. However, it seemed that now she was bringing some more interesting abilities to the table. From what Akane could tell, Lapis seemed to be capable of creating water. At least that is what she figured as she casually avoided all six of the speedy projectiles, barely moving to let the attacks soar past her and into the walls of the training grounds.

As Lapis went on to begin chanting for her kidou, the captain commander would release more of her own spiritual pressure. Hoping that it would make it more difficult to conjure up this spell as well as unbalance her student. She wanted to find the point where Lapis could just barely push through and continue her attacks. This was also a lesson for Akane herself after all, she needed to learn restraint, and staying defensive was a good way to do that. For now though, she would focus on Lapis, to see what this unfamiliar kidou spell actually was.

Her own Spirit Pressure adjusts as the Head Captain's rises. "Custom Hadou number forty, Hyaku no Mizu no Hari no Ame!" She faces her palm right at the Captain, flawlessly executing the kidou and firing one hundred needle-like water projectiles. As this happens she attempts Flash Step. However, she falls short of her destination. As she comes out of the Flash Step she fires off three more of the Umi no Kiba projectiles.

Another Flash Step is made to try and get in close and barely gets in close enough to swing at the Captain's right side, using another of her Zanpakutou's abilities. "Kōsoku Kōzui!" Akane would find water to be swirling five feet around Lapis, the destructive pressure attempting to damage her.

It was amazing that Lapis was still standing at this stage, however, Akane had decided it was time to up the pressure further still. Though not simply with her spiritual pressure, she wanted to make her student a little worried. While she was thinking of this, Lapis had unleashed a kidou that Akane hadn't seen before... Something of her own creation perhaps. Unfortunately, it seemed to have no effect. As the energy condensed to fire from her hand, Lapis would notice the needles simply dissipate into nothingness. Followed immediately by the entire weight of the Captain Commander's power. Before she could even think about using her flash step to continue her assault. It was different now, like Akane had completely unrestrained her energy. It was enough that most captains would find it impossible to stand, let alone someone of Lapis' level of strength.

"That was an interesting trick" The young woman would comment, walking calmly forward, each step closer threatened to force the breath from her lungs until she was standing face to face "Did you make it yourself?" Akane wasn't expecting a reply, she simply maintained eye contact to see exactly what Lapis would try when facing unbeatable odds. Of course, the moment that it seemed her student might succumb to the power, it was lifted. "Good start... Though achieving Bankai isn't simply battle strength. You must materialize and subdue your Zanpakuto's spirit. Get settled in, you are to converse with the spirit. Picture them in your mind." she nods, sheathing her own blade, walking to something of a viewing area that was above the training grounds. Settling down with a deep breath. "I'm sure you've done this before, but meditation is a good way to begin"

'How...? It still should have...' She was wondering why the projectiles had evaporated. Didn't she execute the Kidou perfectly? Then why did it fail?

And then it hit her, like a massive semi right to her legs.

The weight of the Captain Commander's unrestrained Spiritual Pressure floored the lieutenant, who was having a tough time just getting oxygen to get lungs. She does her best to look up, listening to the woman speak. She would have replied if she could, but her mouth wouldn't open. She manages to slide her head along the ground enough to properly keep eye contact, bright blue orbs that shown that even if she trusted the Captain Commander not to kill her, shown a primal fear all are susceptible to when left vulnerable to someone so much stronger. She could feel her muscles ache, her bones straining from the pressure. Just as she thought the Commander's pressure was going to break her, it stopped. The world felt so much lighter to her that when she sat up she almost flipped right back into laying on her back. Her naginata lay on the ground beside her, her gaze focused solely on Akane. She had said something about materializing her Zanpakutou Spirit. "I think I read something about that." She replies, and grabs hold of her Shikai. She seals the blade before laying it upon her lap. She looks to see what the Captain Commander did, only to see that she was doing simple meditation. Was it really that easy?

Lapis closes her eyes, setting her hands gently upon the hilt and blade of her Zanpakutou. She takes a slow breath in through her nose, holds the breath for a few seconds before breathing out through her mouth. The act quickly calmed her still heavily beating heart that had still been excited from the earlier attempt at hitting Akane. Something she failed at miserably, but it seems like it wasn't actually expected of her anyway. Her shoulders relax, and she begins to meditate.

Akane nodded as she took a deep breath, clearing her own thoughts. This wasn't her expertise in any way, seeing as her own training had been more brute force than anything else. Even the rather stubborn spirit that inhabited her own blade had decided to submit to the young shinigami's overwhelming power. Unfortunately, it made it harder to teach. "You must communicate with your zanpakuto's spirit. As you have already attained Shikai, you know it's name. You must coax it into the world, materialize it and subjugate it to learn it's true name" It was possibly something Akane had even less experience with. She knew Arashi was rather temperamental, but she couldn't say what Lapis' spirit might be like... "I'll show you"

There was another rush of pressure, controlled enough that Lapis would find herself able to withstand it as a bright light would fill the training area. It subsided moments later, revealing another young woman sitting opposite Akane in the same sitting position. She had short blonde hair with peircing red eyes, glaring directly at the captain commander. "What do you think you're doing Akane?" she seemed to have little regard for who she was speaking to, absolutely zero respect. However, Lapis would note the spirit had her own weapon resting on her lap. It seemed to be a rather ornate blade without a hilt, almost mirroring the Captain commander's own weapon. "We are teaching today, this is my student, Lapis" the spirit would turn her head, her glare resting directly on the shinigami, like she was being studied. "What makes you think she is ready?"

"Ignore her... Focus on communicating with your spirit. The first step is bringing it into our world. Be careful though... they can be dangerous" She shot a glance at the impetuous spirit sitting opposite her.

"Communicating with my spirit..." That was easy, but to manifest her Sword Spirit? She was a bit nervous about doing so. Granted, that was even considering if she could.

She however gives it a try. She properly performs Jinzen, entering her inner world. It was a calm ocean that she was sitting upon when her eyes opened, the barely rippling waters splashing up at her thighs. She stands, and as she does so the waters start to become more aggressive and rough. The water's surface breaks to reveal her Sword Spirit. It was just the large head of an even larger body, the head alone three times larger than Lapis' person. "What brings you here, runt." It's harsh voice spits out. "Your presence sickens me, and I just woke up from my nap..."

The short Shinigami stands firm. "I need to manifest you, so I can train for Bankai."

The creature's four eyes narrow. "You disturbed me for something you aren't even ready for? Leave, go drown in a kiddie pool." The thing begins to submerge itself again.

"Wait!" The Zanpakutou spirit stops, glaring at it's owner. "How about a bet."

"Hmmm... I'm listening."

Lapis decides to play towards the sword's own wishes. "You let me prove that I can handle manifesting you. If I do it, then we work towards my Bankai. If I fail, I won't disturb you until you speak to me first. However long it takes." The creature looked to think it over before grinning.

"Fine, but don't regret this."

And with that, Lapis leaves. Her eyes open back in the Squad 1 Training Grounds, taking to see her Head Captain there. "I think I am ready to try, Head Captain." She reviews what the Captain had done to summon her spirit, and decides to mimic the process. She slips her sword out and takes a calming breath. While focusing on her Sword Spirit she calls forth on her Spirit Energy, forming it as one would for Kidou. Slowly her energy would take to a large creature. Not as large as it had been in her mind, but large none the less.

Akane herself had not seen another shinigami's zanpakuto spirit before, though she hadn't expected the girl to get it quite so quickly! Even materializing the spirit was a difficult task. However, it seemed that whatever training she had before this had prepared for for this moment. However, she could tell that the spirit didn't have any respect for it's owner. "What on earth is that..." Arashi would pipe up, seemingly having little regard for the other spirits feelings... or she was simply trying to pick a fight. Akane would shoot her unruly spirit a glare, which would silence her for now. She was mostly happy that it hadn't decided to immediately attack, as she had heard was rather common.

"You must subjugate you zanpakuto's spirit, materializing it is not enough" Akane would turn her gaze towards the spirit, looking somewhat concerned. It wasn't something that she could simply do for her student after all, and the means of subjugation could really vary from spirit to spirit. Some wanted only a good fight, while others could require supreme wisdom... What this one wanted was up to Lapis to figure out on her own. Should anything go wrong, Akane was ready to help. Though she wasn't sure exactly how to stop a rampaging zanpakuto spirit...
