It was just about sunset and Captain Shibutani had just walked to an open field from a somewhat busy workday, having to approve several publications for the Seireitei news and other publications which he, as the leader of Squad 9 had dominion over. A cool wind blew through the air, fitting for the calm, casual nature of the scene, and something which would hopefully persist.

Waiting for the Captain were several members of his own squad, along with others who had also been invited or simply heard of the event and wanted to see. It took much longer to do than it seemed to with the other captains. That is, a fight was booked between him and the Captain Commander, as she often wanted to do. This one, because Captain Shibutani was a busy man, took several years to plan and coordinate simply between all the happenings that have occurred that have filled both of their schedules along with Captain Shibutani's simple refusal to appear without a set date. Chatter among the crowd had revealed that such an event was certainly anticipated, especially with how much older Captain Shibutani was compared to the Captain Commander in spite of her rapid advance compared to Captain Shibutani.

Wanting to give his all for the fight, Captain Shibutani wore clothing that was a bit more disposable, though also much more breathable. That is, he wore little more than a pair of shorts which conformed tightly to his legs, but were stretchy and flexible enough to allow movement as well as provide a good deal of comfort and protection. It was a testament to Squad 9 design and Squad 12 science, Captain Shibutani given the piece of clothing to test so that it could be marketed throughout the Gotei 13 and perhaps even the Soul Society. His hair was tied up into a ponytail, keeping his long hair out of his eyes. His zanpakuto was tied around a sash on his waist, first, cushioned with muscle.

The Captain took a deep breath, awaiting the arrival of the Captain Commander, arms resting casually at his side.

Rena had been far more patient on this matter, than literally anything else in her entire shinigami life, when dealing with the 9th division captain. He was a thorn mostly and if he proved to be not worth the constant set backs and re-schedules she'd definitely need to rethink his position. Which was weird because Rena was generally forgiving of most things.. but when she said jump. She expected you to jump. Even if it was an inch. This guy and his not budging attitude was poor for a captain and bad for someone who was expected to be obedient.

She arrived on time, for once, already forgetting she was annoyed at the man and more focusing on the fact they were about to spar, "I take it you aren't going to run off this time? I swear I've had more issues keeping you on a schedule than I have running Soul Society as a whole." She wore the general clothing, unlike her opponent, she was in full shinigami robes and her captain commander Haori. She did pull out two clothed chain gloves and slipped them on though. The cloth being as black as her robes. The remnants of her zanpaktou reshaped into something useful.

"I don't want you holding back. Do so at your own peril." She said as she took her general hakuda stance. Which had her slightly sideways one hand up near her should height and one hand down by her waist and pulled back, "you may begin when ready."

Captain Shibutani, standing on the other side of the field had stretched out as Rena was talking, shaking off his workday. Due to how busy he had been, Captain Shibutani had less time to train than he normally had, resorting to small exercises here and there whenever he had the time in order to keep in shape, doing things like push-ups, running, or air squats whenever he could.

From the Captain Commander's side, Shibutani could rarely feel anything from her. However, he knew that she was a master in manipulating spiritual energy and that she was only concealing it. He eyed the commander's gloves. He's heard rumors of her zanpakuto shattering, having to be remade. It seemed like an appropriate handicap, if one could even call it that. With confidence, Captain Shibutani looked at his commander, and his thumb pushed his zanpakuto out of its sheathe. Normally, he was reluctant to draw his sword. This time, however, he definitely wanted to give it his all.

Before even drawing it fully, Captain Shibutani used shunpoto close the distance between him and the Captain Commander. When he was two feet from her- just far enough for his zanpakuto to reach- the Captain of the 9th Squad unsheathed his zanpakuto for a straightforward diagonal slash upward, the tip aimed at the Commander's waist.

"Very well."

Her hand by her waist moved as his zan did slapping away his sword strike with her zan gloved hand in the process, before channeling energy into her other hand firing one of her own martial kidou, "Shimo Sutoraiki", or Frost Strike, as she palm thrusted that hand forward. This kidou created a miniature "wall" in a straight line of ice spikes and raised nine feet in the air with each spike being connected to each other for the first foot of this rising before becoming individually spiked. Each spike also ended up being five foot wide. It was quite the move. But it was a distraction.

Because Rena visually disappeared at that point. She simply wasn't anywhere near him anymore.

Having used shunpo to go into the sky, as she knew she couldn't properly control it for anything else, she was now crashing down towards Jun. During the trip she activated another one of her modified Kidou, "Kaze Jūden", which created a more powerful version of Hadou 58 except it encased her like an AoE offensive armor instead of being a tornado blast outwards from her. Meaning if she landed and he was still nearby he was going to feel some pain.

As soon as she landed, she'd take note of his position, if he was within melee she'd crouch and spin trying to sweep kick his legs out from under him. If he wasn't within melee she'd fire a normal "Hadou no 4: Byakurai" at him.

As expected, the Captain Commander had a bag full of tricks. Captain Shibutani had no way of overpowering her, and in fact, he never planned on doing such a thing. Still, he needed to at least get up to her level. Though, at the moment, as his sword was unsheathed, the captain commander had all but vanished. Even focusing, it was difficult to sense her among the crowd, before the Captain of the 9th squad had finally realized that she was not on the field but rather above it, and at that point realized she had been planning something.

Hearing a "Shi" out of the Commander was enough for the Captain to move himself out of the way, rolling on the ground just a few inches away from the spikes which had shot out of them. Captain Shibutani had no way of knowing exactly what the Captain Commander was going to do and in fact didn't even know what she did after she did it as far as the procedures go. "Stalk!" was heard even by the crowd through the tornado and as the Captain Commander landed, Shibutani was already two of the commander's body's length away, a dual-edged metal blade running from where the ice spikes were and Captain Shibutani himself, still on the ground. He had used his own shunpo in order to dodge.

In Captain Shibutani's hand, was a metal handle. Hagane Orochi, his zanpakuto, had not only been sheathed, but released.

He tossed his zanpakuto over him, rolled out of the way of Rena's Byakurai, caught the handle in his otherhand, then kicked off the ground to slide underneath the trail it had left behind.

"Ye lord! Mask of blood and flesh, all creation, flutter of wings, ye who bears the name of Man! Inferno and pandemonium, the sea barrier surges, march on to the south! Hado #31! Shock-a-ho!" the Captain shouted. A blazing inferno erupted from his left hand, then quickly was absorbed into the hilt of his zanpakuto. Then, with a smirk and his right hand held out at the commander's side, "Hado #4. Byakurai." Out of his finger tips, a flash of lightning.

---

He had no intention of actually hitting her, the Hado aimed ever so slightly to her right so that she could dodge left, where Shibutani's shikai was waiting, the Captain planning to catch the captain commander with that. And should she fly upward, Captain Shibutani had a plan too. He would also travel in the air with her, even meeting her with a right hook to the chest.

She watched him do his little maneuvering stunts as she landed, with him now out of her melee range to do anything due to having used shunpo himself. Seems he had released his shikai based on the new amount of spiritual energy flowing around him though and the odd form his zanpaktou had now taken, "You taking me seriously now?" his response whether intentional or not came in the form of Hadou 4. Though she was more curious why he had fully incanted hadou 31 and it suddenly poofed into thin air.. she didn't sense it or see it anywhere.. did he do something with it? But for now. She dealt with the Hadou 4. She opened her left palm and performed Tessho an enhanced palm thrust technique and quashed the bolt as it made contact with her hand.

Since he was starting to get at least a little bit more serious. She decided to do the same. She retook her stance, this time mirroring muay thai's defensive stance, and focused her power before raising it to a level that would make one swear she just used her own shikai, despite not being able to anymore since her zanpaktou had been damaged. As soon as the power increase occurred she was covered in a visible but not quite super dense aura of her own spiritual power that remained active now.

"Try again for a yen?" She asked while just staying put and waiting on him to make the next move. It was a spar to test his abilities after all. Wouldn't be a point if she didn't make him attack her with everything he had.

Jun tossed his zanpakuto parallel to the ice wall, still ten feet away from it, the tip up to where he threw the blade being mostly adjacent to the wall, forming a cup shape. Captain Shibutani kept his limbs close to one another, in a ball, using pelvis and shoulders to propel himself sideways. He did not reach out. Rather, his entire body engulfed Rena's hind leg. It was slightly skinnier than what he was used to, Rena being a woman after all, most of his sparring partners being men.

His intent, of course, was simply to keep her in place. So at that point, he had both hands gripped tightly on Rena's calf, his legs tucked in and his feet curled in, his entire body rolled into a ball, hanging onto the leg. His entire body, head to toe was pressed tightly against the leg, holding her in place.

"Bakudo Number Four! Hainawa!" he mumbled, his head tucked in. Orange ropes of energy wrapped around Shibutani's hands as well as Rena's leg, tying them together. The rope escaped from small cracks underneath Jun's body, reaching into the dirt, then anchored itself to the trail of Shibutani's zanpakuto where he had thrown it on top of him just a moment before.

Then, out of the right hand corner opposite the direction of the blade, a cylindrical beam of energy. That was where Shakaho went, aimed toward the outside of the Captain Commander's head. Along with Shibutani's zanpakuto, the beam formed a triangle. Rena's best bet was, of course to block it. However, the rope crept up, keeping her arms tied to her body.

And underneath her, Shibutani changed. "Hado Number Eighty Eight. Hiryu Gekizoku Shinten Raiho" his head turned up for a moment, mouth agape at the captain commander. Then, from his tongue, shot a powerful burst of electricity.

Rena just kind of stared at him with a "what the hell" look as he basically clung to her leg. She had half a mind to just kick her leg hard enough to throw him off, but decided to play it out and see what it was he had in mind for this little stunt. It didn't take long either. Apparently he had set up a little "trap" of sorts for his captain-commander using his zanpaktou and that hadou he made disappear earlier as now she was being attacked by beams of energy that roughly felt similar to the hadou he had incanted.

Her first thought was to just punch the beam. Because Rena, but she had focused on the beam coming for her and not herself, and failed to notice that he had used a bakudo on her because he had mumbled it. So she was bound. Ish. She figured she could break free but was still curious about that beam. Besides she didn't have time to break free and deal with the beam in the same coin anyways.

At least not the way she originally intended.

She began inhaling sharply, almost exaggeratedly so, before releasing a shout, Her Kiai technique, that was so loud that the sound shockwaves it produced shattered the Hainawa bindings on her, probably hurt the poor man's eardrums, thereby disorientating his motor skills by at most a quarter, and though it was clearly not going to stop the beams from hitting her it did get her free and allow her to punch said beams anyways. Only for his Zanpaktou to gash into her while she wasn't paying attention to it. Tricky little weapon he had there.. He was clung to her leg and his zanpaktou still attacked her.

She felt the energy first, then noticed what it even was as it collided with her, the Hadou 88 he fired from his mouth, but since she had not used this next ability so far in their fight, her body activated her Runic ability in self defense. Causing the Hadou 88 to become absorbed by her instead of harming her. converting all of it's energy into her own and effectively making it just vanish into her body.

She stared at him for a second as he was still on her leg and grinned, "Not gonna lie. If I wasn't me that would have totally sucked ass and put me in a world of hurt I wouldn't easily shrug off. How'd you do that anyways. I saw your hadou earlier poof. Is that one of your Zanpaktou abilities? Reading your file is one thing, but experiencing it is another."

She waited, kind of hoping he'd get off her leg himself, but if he didn't she proceed to force kick that leg so roughly that he'd either let go, get tossed off by the force of the kick, or give her a reason to hurt him until he let go anyways. But right now she just showed patience and made it clear he needed to let go of her leg.

What happened between using "Turn" and his kido firing was unclear, at least to Jun. At first, he thought he had heard the Captain Commander yell, only for that sound to be replaced by a ringing in his ears, drowning out just about anything else. The shear pain of it had Shibutani cling instinctively tighter against Rena's leg, feeling the rope break from underneath them. She had freed herself. Though the sound was drowned out, at that moment, the handle of Hagane Orochi twisted back to the right, boxing the two in. There was a slight curvature of the blade as it reached up from the side in order to cut Rena in the first place, digging into her left shoulder, the rest curving downward. The shape Shibutani's zanpakuto was drawing gained a new side, basically, and counting the ice wall which had partially melted, became a five-sided object.

Through the inflection of Captain Rena's voice, Jun, the Captain of the 9th Squad could swear she was talking. However, his ears were still ringing and he did not quite bother to look up to check whether or not she was speaking. "HUH? YES, MA'AM! THE WEATHER IS NICE TODAY!" he shouted into her legs, voice muffled. It was the best he could do, at least at the moment, with his current hearing.

As for his zanpakuto, it was a peculiar one. At first, Hagane Orochi was classified as a weapons-type zanpakuto, as it did nothing but flail around. However, as Jun began to realize more and more of its abilities, the exact classification had become more and more blurred. Of course, it was just one of the many examples of how unique zanpakuto could get within the Seireitei.

Jun uncurled, and at that point was between Rena's legs, one hand on each of Rena's ankles. His legs were still crunched up for a moment before he kicked out, his feet headed toward Rena's waist in an attempt to trip her, kicking her toward the other end where his zanpakuto was waiting to cut her in the back.

Crunch:

Jun Injuries: Ears (Tinnitus; motorskills down for up to 2 posts)

Hado 4 Cool Down: Done
Hado 31 Cool Down: Done
Hado 88 Cool Down: 2 turns
Bakudo 4 Cool Down: 1 turn

Orochi no Kawa: 30 ft total
