It was day time over the military quarters of the Seireitei. The day so far had gone on as it usually had. The sounds of hard work were heard in some areas, the sounds of goofing off in others. It was around that time when Kageyama was usually outside, enjoying the fairly quaint atmosphere. He walked through the courtyard from the Rukon district and into the military area. It had been several weeks since Kageyama's last mission, and so his hair remained long. It was covered in a black shroud, which Kageyama had promptly removed upon entering Seireitei.

Upon removing the shroud, Kageyama's lengthy pink hair dropped down to his shoulder blades, tied neatly into a ponytail. At that time, Kageyama attempted to look natural. His gait was normal, his hands swung in a natural manner, and the cadence of his step was a slow, casual one without any apparent sense of rhythm. Kageyama's intent: attract the least attention as possible. It was his modus operandi, and had been for almost as long as he was a shinigami.

Kageyama peeked at his watch. "This should be about the right time and place" he mumbled. Kageyama was scheduled to meet a shinigami named "Kaitou" who had graduated no more than a century ago. Thinking about it had made Kageyama a little nostalgic in fact.

The shinigami sat down. "I know you're here" he called out.

It wasn't that Seireitei was different, it was just... things weren't the same.

With his mother's passing away, Kaitou had fled into Rukongai. He hadn't intended to ever be back here, and yet... he was. Things were the same, but they were different. Seireitei wasn't different, but it felt different almost by feeling the same. It didn't even make sense to Kaitou himself, he just knew that something had changed. Something had made everything different, but everything looked... the same.

It was beginning to cause the blond to get a headache. He looked upwards to smile at the sun; at least that was actually the same. He had always preferred the daylight to the night, and he was glad that this meeting was taking place in the day time. It was more effective, more efficient, and he liked it more. That wasn't different, that was the same, and it felt right. Seireitei didn't. The Gotei 13 didn't. Division 11 didn't. He didn't.

The fifth seat of Division 2 had agreed to meet with Kaitou, for purposes of training his Shikai. While the latter was familiar with it, it had been a while since he'd used it, and he needed to make sure that he remembered his techniques within it.

However... the fifth seat of Division 2, Kageyama Kanamaru, had not yet shown up. It wasn't his fault though, since Kaitou had shown up a few minutes early so he could get himself into the psyche of someone about to use their Shikai for the first time in over a century. He closed his eyes as he leaned against the nearest building, his sword making a clang as it collided with the walls while he crossed his arms. Kageyama would show up soon enough, and he needed to be ready.

"I know you're here."

The voice called out as Kaitou's eyes sprang open. He was right around the corner, and it made sense that he hadn't detected Kaitou's presence; his reiatsu suppression was tremendously strong, and it took someone of very high caliber to detect him without his being in combat where he would release it. Kaitou stepped off the wall and turned the corner, raising his hand.

"Yo. I'm Kaitou." turning his head to the right, Kaitou smiled while inspecting what Kageyama looked like to get an inspection into who he actually was. He could only faintly detect the other's reiatsu, which either meant that he was very weak (which was unlikely) or he was also skilled at suppressing it (which was very likely). Since Kaitou could still detect it, however, that meant that he wasn't as skilled at suppressing his reiatsu as Kaitou was. Even at this range, and since Kaitou was still very calm, Kageyama likely had no detection at all of Kaitou's reiatsu.

Kageyama was wearing a very standard uniform with little deviation from the normal shinigami, which was to be expected. If every shinigami wore a unique outfit, then no one would be unique. His eyes were a dark brown, but his unique bright pink hair was definitely the most vibrant thing about this young man. It was in a pony tail, and reflected onto his pale skin which blended them together to some degree. He was clearly taller than Kaitou, though, and was defined but not particularly muscular, much like Kaitou himself.

"Shall we go straight to our shikai stage, or get a feel for each other before we do anything else?" Kaitou questioned with the same smile, his eyes closing this time as he straightened his head. Something about Kageyama felt weird, but the blond couldn't quite put his finger on it. He'd have to be on his guard while he was in this confrontation.

"Welcome home" Kageyama greeted with a warm smile. "I trust you already know who I am. For posterity's sake, however, I am Kageyama Kanamaru. 2nd division, 5th seat; been in the business for about three hundred years. Nice to finally meet you." Kageyama introduced.

Kageyama scanned their meeting area, deeming it an open enough space for the two to move around and fight no-holds barred without risking too much property damage. Before he could allow Kaitou to respond, Kageyama took a couple of steps backwards and removed his zanpakuto- sheathe and all- from his belt. Almost immediately, the ambient reiatsu seemed to increase. “Bring on. Nanbokusenso.” Kageyama declared.

With a flash of light, Nanbokusenso's true form was revealed: a long rifle built of wood and metal, and a shorter counterpart still holstered at Kageyama's belt. “If we're going to train, it makes sense that the two of us pushed our hardest.” Kageyama reasoned. “Now show me your shikai.” The shinigami waited, holding Nanbokusenso by the grip in his right hand, and by the length of the barrel in his left, barrel facing downward. While his shikai was indeed showing, the pose itself was not inherently threatening, the barrel of Nanbokusenso being pointed to the side and away from both Kaitou and Kageyama.

A rifle? That's the shikai Kageyama has? Him being in the second division made sense then, since Division 2 was tied in directly with the Onmitsukidō. What department he headed was up for debate, but Kaitou knew this would be an interesting battle. His shikai didn't excel at any range, but he could fight at any range effectively. His reiatsu had also increased, which would mean he was simply suppressing it earlier, which was good for Kaitou's sake. This fight wouldn't be over too soon, yet.

When told to release his shikai, Kaitou simply nodded and stepped back, trying to make sure no buildings were in his immediate vicinity, since he was still close to the one he'd rounded the corner of earlier. His right hand reached behind him and grabbed hold of the large zanpakuto resting in its strap behind his back, pulling to release and letting it fall, stopping it just before it hit the ground. No reason to start damaging Seireitei yet, he figured. With a deep breath, Kaitou released his full spiritual pressure at once as he began to glow with the blue presence of his reiatsu, before smiling.

"Incinerate... Caliburn." Immediately upon finishing the name of his Zanpakuto, he exploded in a flaming aura which covered the nearby area and would cause anyone looking directly at him to avert their eyes, under normal circumstances. His blade had changed, and was no longer the simply black cleaver; now it was a much thicker sword, with a flame resting in a notch near the tip on the back of the blade. Pulling back on his right arm, Kaitou swung the blade in the direction of Kageyama, releasing hundreds of tiny bladed embers which all proceeded directly at the pink-haired man.

Kageyama didn't need time to process it, Kaitou assumed, and would react however this fight was going to go on.

As soon as he noticed Kaitou's energy change, Kageyama halted his gaze, covering his eyes from the bright flash emitted from Kaitou's released shikai with his left arm, lifting the firing end of Nanbokusenso in the process. "Interesting name" Kageyama commented. When the zanpakuto had settled down, Kageyama turned his head back to see Caliburn in Shikai. Kageyama examined Katou's zanpakuto, his eyes focusing up and down on its blade.

Kageyama positioned the stock of Nanbokusenso so that it nestled comfortably in the pocket of Kageyama's right shoulder. The barrel that was pointed to the side was aimed directly at Kaitou around the chest area. Kageyama ran forward.

After three steps, “No Holds Barred: Dance of the Three-Headed Beast” Kageyama declared. Three bursts of energy fired off from Nanbokusenso and spread away, the center “bullet” flying straight toward Kaitou's chest. As he attacked, Kageyama had vanished using shunpo, his energy signature apparently somewhere high in the sky.

“Dance of the Three-Headed Beast” Kageyama started “It fires three rounds of highly compressed reiatsu. I don't imagine it would be pleasant being hit by it.”

As Kaitou expected, Kageyama had shielded his eyes to avoid the flash of Caliburn's release. He glanced at the weapon for a moment, and then began his own assault by launching three attacks, which each felt like condensed reiatsu. As they moved towards Kaitou and passed through the stream of embers produced by Kaitou, Kageyama used shunpo to move upwards. Kaitou flipped over what he could only assume were bullets of reiatsu, which was confirmed when Kageyama spoke from above.

As he landed, Kaitou spun around and swung Caliburn at Kageyama again. This time, he also pointed his left hand at him as the bladed embers from his first swing shifted direction and started moving towards Kageyama from a different angle than the swing. Kaitou then thrust the zanpakuto in a straight line at his opponent, creating another set of embers. He was making more and more now, and they would be difficult to dodge fairly soon. With his opponent distracted by the flames and bladed embers, Kaitou utilized shunpo to move up even higher than Kageyama, watching his reactions to the attacks in order to see how he dodges. If he simply used shunpo to move out of the way, Kaitou would throw his left hand out to guide the embers around as to circle them back and once again try to hit Kageyama. If he did anything else, Kaitou would simply watch to see what it was.

This fight was starting to kick itself into overdrive, and was reminding Kaitou of why he loved battle in the first place. The impossible things that shinigami do, and how each unique individual counters any given scenario, were something that Kaitou enjoyed more than most other shinigami did. That... and the actual fighting people.

Kageyama shifted his head to watch as Kaitou so easily took the bait. Kageyama refrained from using his kido, and thus limited the use of his zanpakuto in half. It didn't make him more or less capable, however. Kageyama thought Kaitou as talented and hardworking, but not intelligent. On even ground, Kageyama was confident in his victory.

Just barely, Kageyama had caught a grasp of Kaitou's flames as they shot upward and to the side. Simple and strong, but nothing Kageyama was not familiar with. The shinigami was capable of using shunpo to escape not once but twice, utilizing nothing more than simple good timing and prediction. Kageyama landed on the ground, then turned around 180 degrees to face his opponent, before getting on one knee.

Kageyama pointed Nanbokusenso at Kaitou as he motioned his right hand over the top of Nanbokusenso with his index and middle finger in a pulling fashion. As he did, a small ball of pink reiatsu formed at the front of Nanbokusenso. Energy swirled in front of Nanbokusenso as the power began to swell. Kageyama was charging an attack! Kageyama noticed the flames swirl in front of Kaitou. Clearly, it wasn't wise to get close. While holding onto the longer part of his zanpakuto, Kageyama reached to his belt to unholster the shorter counterpart, pointing it to the side.

“Down here!” Kageyama declared, hoping Kaitou would once again take the bait.
