Another ten people showed up. That made the total count so far seventy three, and more would soon be on there way. Seireitei is no stranger to gossip, and rumors are wildfire to the grapevine. Not all of the souls around him were Shinigami either, some were simply people within Seireitei who wanted to see the commotion's source.

The wind nipped at his bare arm, while the rest of him was fine. He leaned his neck to the right with his eyes closed, the vertebrae cracking with each action, and then leaned it to the left to crack the rest. His head returned to an upright figure as he began to smile just barely. His eyes were focusing on everything about the other man, trying to determine what the best route of attack would be.

Across the plaza stood the Shinigami he would soon call his enemy. In a ponytail, the frail figure's red hair stood out from his blue outfit, with his hand on his Zanpakuto as though he were ready to start the fight whenever. The scar on his cheek was clearly aged, so he's been in fights before and knows his way around his Zanpakuto. The translucent but blue scarf he wore was most likely used as a distraction in combat, and a quick mental note to ignore it would assist later on. Surprisingly, the red-head looked bored. His vibrant purple eyes were glossed over and his mouth was ever so slightly pitched downward. The obvious conclusion was that Seiryo didn't want to do this fight; or... Seiryo didn't think that it was going to be worth his time. He underestimated the power that Kaitou Eta-Naru had.

That was going to be a mistake. Assuming your foe is weaker than you is something no one should ever do, even in a spar like this; but especially when this spar determines who becomes the Vice Captain of Division Eleven. Kaitou's smile widened into a grin as his eyes began lighting up. He had figured out enough of who Seiryo Ittousai was, and was ready to start figuring out how the man fought. Shifting his shoulders downward and spreading his legs, the blond-haired man reached behind him and took hold of his Zanpakuto, pulling it to release it from its sheathe. He let the weapon rest on his shoulder, not wanting to show how heavy it actually was by letting it crash into the ground. Based on the fragility of Seiryo's appearance, Kaitou's standard style of staying away from his target didn't look like it would be very effective: he would need to get up close and personal, and hopefully win this fight using Zanjutsu and Hoho. If this fight could be won before either of them revealed their Shikai, then that would be for the better of the entire crowd of... what appeared to now be one-hundred twenty four people.

"Alright then, Seiryo..." Kaitou grinned as his voice rang out. "You ready?"

He waited for a moment, hoping that Seiryo would begin to respond before using his Shunpo to close the distance between them. When in front of the red-haired man, Kaitou swung Caliburn down where Seiryo stood. Division Eleven was all about combat and bloodlust, and if Seiryo lost the fight because he was goaded into talking and wasn't prepared, that was a sign of weakness that would cost him the seat of Vice Captain even if Kaitou wasn't the one going after it.

Seiryo Ittousai ;; 3-2 ;; Shinigami ;; Male

Seiryo wasn't particularly looking forward to this, not because it was a test against him and that the word was this boy was pretty powerful, it simply was Seiryo didn't really care, he had more important things to do then simply dealing with this boy that wanted his title, but his captain and the head captain had made it clear this was going to happen weather he wanted it to or not. So Seiryo decided to at least try this out and see if he was worthy of his metal.

As he got dressed, he noticed the squad members eagerly rushing to the courtyard at the back of the barracks, some with smug smiles on their faces at the news of a fight between the current lieutenant and his challenger.

"Idiots, they run to fights like ants to flames, no wonder we don't have many in the way of seated officers when most of these guys don't have half a braincell between them, they desire to fight and that's it; its never fun to fight when you cannot outsmart your opponent as well; having the brainpower to keep the fight going only benefits my blade...but enough of this self delaying; I need to get going and meet this guy and go through all that lieutenant challenge crap," Seiryo thought out loud and coldly before finishing getting ready in a dark and slightly faded blue coloured uniform with a light blue scarf around his neck and his zanpakuto lovingly at his side. He then headed out to the courtyard, where a massive crowd of people. He saw his challenger and didn't really think much of this greenhorn; although he was of a decent build and his spiritual pressure was decent enough, but he looked like a greenhorn and honestly, a little wimpy. Seiryo couldn't explain it, just he had this wimpish air about him.

He seemed to be smiling at him for some reason; Seiryo huffed, he couldn't believe he was taking this so lightly, especially as he addressed him so casually, asking if he was ready; he was so eager to fight that he was going to drop any formalities and get right to it and attacked Seiryo, shocking some members for the breach in protocol. Seiryo looked coldly at him and as his sword was about to connect, he used flash step to avoid it, bringing his sword around and would aim to slash the side of this man's side before appearing behind him with his zanpakuto drawn.

"Your a rash one, ain't ya? it's rather disappointing to fight someone like you, greenhorn. If you knew anything about squad eleven, we have rules, even if a greenhorn like you can't see them; if you going to fight someone, then you should speak your name, so when you kill someone, they will at least know the name of their killers. So...if you don't mind, I'll introduce myself, greenhorn; I am Seiryo Ittousai, lieutenant of squad eleven and maybe you shouldn't be so bold and underestimate your opponents before you attack them, you may find that you'll end up dead quicker that way," Seiryo explained to him coldly, if her attack was successful, his blood would be dripping from his razor sharp blade, one that had been shown the utmost care and respect by this lieutenant. He was saving his ace in the hole for a tight spot and he didn't want to have to use his shikai unless absolutely necessary; his fight was one of honour as well as sport and he was determined to teach this greenhorn a thing or two about what it meant to be a lieutenant of the thirteen court guard squads.

The red-haired man dodged the attack easily, utilizing his own shunpo to dodge it, and had managed to draw his zanpakuto while doing it, causing Kaitou to suffer the first wound. His eyes narrowed and he grit his teeth as Caliburn finally reached the ground, shattering the tiles of Seireitei and kicking up a fair amount of dirt underneath. He hadn't swung with his full strength, but it was enough to cause damage to the makeshift arena.

Division Eleven, apparently, had rules for combat: letting your opponent know your name before the fight was one of them. Kaitou stood up straight and turned around to face his enemy, the blood showing on his clothes and his enemy's blade, as he smiled. Seiryo Ittousai, lieutenant of Division Eleven, would lose this fight; but to tell Kaitou not to underestimate his opponents was clearly him just being rude. A rash statement like that would cost him, but Kaitou did his best to keep his mood happy and enjoy the fight. No reason to get angry just yet.

"Kaitou Eta-Naru." He kept his smile as he announced himself, albeit a bit late to do so. Kaitou lifted the six-foot-long zanpakuto and rested it on his shoulder again, bracing himself for the next round of attack. A part of him was curious how many bystanders there were now, what their reactions were and who they thought would win this; he knew, though, that to glance over there and inspect them, to take his focus off of Seiryo, would cost him the battle. He felt the strength of Seiryo's spiritual pressure, and while it was formidable, it wasn't as strong as Kaitou's own.

He was fast, though. Faster than Kaitou for sure... maybe even faster than Kaitou expected him to be. He would still have to stay close, as being far away would not be effective enough to defeat him, but he didn't have to just be close. Kaitou was aware that some kidō could be cast without their incantation, albeit being a bit weaker than the full version. The speed and surprise of using one of those kidō could be what makes Kaitou win this fight... but there was an issue. Division Eleven only respected physical combat, and using kidō to win the fight would likely lead to his being disqualified. He couldn't risk it, not yet.

Kaitou used his shunpo to dash to Seiryo's location again, and this time swung his blade horizontally at Seiryo. If it connected, then the attack worked; and if it didn't, Kaitou would use the momentum to spin around and keep swinging the blade in a full circle, so that Seiryo couldn't dodge the same way twice.

Seiryo Ittousai ;; 3-2 ;; Shinigami ;; Male

Seiryo listened to the name of the greenhorn as he cocky announced himself as Kaitou Eta-Naru. Seiryo didn't really think much of this cocky sissy however. his attacks, although powerful, was sloppy and easy to predict, especially going with the size of his zanpakuto.

"So apparently the greenhorn at least has some manners after all," Seiryo told Kaitou in a bored manner, his eyes glancing to the damage he had done to the courtyard; although this guy didn't seem to be that bright, it wouldn't do to get hit by his zanpakuto, it would end up messy, although Seiryo had no intention of letting this jack ass take him out and run his squad. For Seiryo, the idea of making this guy the new lieutenant was like making a five year old the captain of a battleship; it wouldn't end well.

it seemed however that this Kaitou hadn't learned anything and simply charged forward using what seemed to be a undeveloped flash step, making it easy to track, even by his eyes. He rolled his eyes in disgust and brought his zanpakuto to clash with Kaitou's zanpakuto, making Seiryo move to the side a little as he fought to keep his stance from the raw power Kaitou was putting into his strikes. Seiryo however had a different idea as he went to bring his blade around from the clash, Seiryo grabbed his arm and used him as a lever to leap upwards and aimmed his feet to plant them straight into Kaitou's face, where he would be launched backwards or slammed through one of the barrack's walls. Seiryo then landed, brushing his uniform like he was trying to get rid of a stain before looking at Kaito.

"I have no interest in this fight, especially not with a out of class greenhorn like this guy; your not even taking this seriously. Do you think this is some child's game? if your not going to fight me serious, I see no point in continuing this fight," Seiryo spoke coldly to Kaitou, being brutally honesty because he really didn't care about this fight and especially not with a cocky greenhorn who thought to take him on without thinking, he didn't know what was more disappointing; the fact that he was a greenhorn or the fact he didn't even take this seriously, in Seiryo's eyes, he wasn't lieutenant material, but he was interested to see if his goading could get Kaitou to at least take this somewhat seriously because at the moment, Seiryo couldn't fight someone who didn't feel worthy of his blade, wiping his blade of the blood, like it felt like a dishonour to even have it staining his zanpakuto. He looked back to Kaitou, waiting to see if he was going to give up now or somehow take this seriously and show Seiryo that there was real skill to back up his cocky ass attitude.

The two blades clashed with a spark, and Seiryo took no pause as he shifted his body and planted his foot squarely in Kaitou's face. The latter flew backwards, not expecting such a maneuver, and crashed into the wall of the barracks, breaking it open as he continued back. Clearly this was the kind of fight that Kaitou was going to have to take a little more seriously.

He had been kicked through the wall of the barracks, and it hurt. What was Seiryo hiding that was letting him do this? His reiatsu wasn't stronger than Kaitou's, but he was simply walking all over him. Was he just this rusty after a year of doing nothing? Kaitou lightly cursed himself for his actions and choices in his life, but sighted and looked over to the man outside. He was still taunting Kaitou, acting like he was the alpha dog, like he was the captain himself. Kaitou was lightly grateful that he wasn't, since he didn't want to have to do this to the death... and also, because he didn't have his bankai yet.

What he did have, however, was his shikai. Calibun's abilities would come in handy in this fight.

Luckily for him, he was now inside the barracks. No one could see exactly what he was doing as they awaited him to come out, so he took advantage of that fact. He had wanted to do this fight without needing to use his shikai, but apparently that could be averted no longer. Giving up his suppression, Kaitou released the full brunt of his reiatsu as he held his zanpakuto towards Seiryo, even though he couldn't see it.

"Incinerate... Caliburn." He muttered quietly, a bright light pulsing from his location as he swung the shikai Caliburn towards Seiryo, a hundred tiny bladed embers moving towards the redheaded lieutenant quickly. Kaitou's shunpo put him outside the building and higher up looking down, where he decided to just go full out because he was getting tired of the damage he was taking. Even now, the two hits he had taken were both stinging; his side hurt, his face hurt, and his back was stinging from when he was sent flying through a wall. Kaitou used his left hand to spell out a kanji letter, then held it flat at Seiryo as he used Bakudō#9 without the incantation. He swung his sword again, releasing another hundred embers which all proceeded at Seiryo. If he had managed to dodge both sets of embers and the Bakudō, Kaitou would move his hand to guide the embers to change direction and attempt a second attack.

Seiryo Ittousai ;; 3-2 ;; Shinigami ;; Male

Seiryo looked to the dark cloud that had formed when Kaitou was forced straight through the nearby wall of the barracks. Seiryo wondered what Kaitou was doing in there; one thought was that he was cockily sitting on his ass, waiting for Seiryo or...the later as Seiryo suddenly felt the proper release of his spiritual pressure, although what he didn't seem to realize was that in releasing his full amount of spiritual pressure, he cleared the smoke screen that was caused by the debris from his unprompted entry into the barracks. Although the release of his zanpakuto was a more pleasent surprise as it changed its form from the long cleaver-like blade of his sealed form for a more scimitar-like blade with a curved tip coming inwards, a golden plated armour around the top of the blade and around the guard and handle. It had also gained a large red tassel that went down from the handle and hung down with a small gold weight tied to the end of it.

Seiryo then saw Kaitou swung his zanpakuto horizontally, firing a massive amount of small flaming embers like mini comets, causing heatwave as they streaked across the courtyard towards Seiryo. He scowled as he dived downwards, under the embers to avoid his first lot. Quickly regaining his stance, he looked up, seeing Kaitou up in the sky, having missed his earlier flash step from having to duck his attack with his shikai, he saw his hand forming a kanji before he extended it towards Seiryo while swinging his sword again, firing another bunch of embers. Not having time to avoid both, he moved below the embers before getting hit by the bakudo.

"Damn it! you dare use such cheap tricks to win?! That's it, I've had enough of this insult to my honor!" Seiryo growled, infuriated by this guy using kido in a melee only fight, the sheer sight of the red aura of the geki bakudo covering his body only served to make his blood boil, so as Kaitou went to redirect his embers back towards Seiryo, Seiryo released his spiritual pressure in its full release, appearing as a red and intense spiritual pressure that looked to always be sharpening itself against the air around it. Using this power, he broke out the weak bakudo and took up into the sky, knowing that the embers would follow him. He would then stop himself in mid air, then raise his zanpakuto's blade towards the sun, anger burning in his eyes.

"Slash and Erode, Zettaien!" Seiryo growled the release command and the name of his zanpakuto; Zettaien. The blade hissed as steam rose from it as well as glowing red, the top changed, forming a curved crescent moon shaped blade from the tip like a hook, the blade also became a little thicker by a few inches. Seiryo then proceed to slash through the embers coming his way, giving a battle cry as he slashed through the ones coming at him, making a gap big enough that he could flash step directly in front of Kaitou, his blade raised before quickly aiming a strike that would slash across from Kaitou's left shoulder, down to his right side before he would pull back about seven meters away from kaitou. If the attack was successful, a second scalloped tooth formed in the blade, in line with the hooked end of the blade and the start of a scalloped edged blade. He would look at Kaitou and speak.

"I have never fought such a dishonourable and disrespectful jerk like you; so I'm going to remind you of something basic, you greenhorn; I have a shikai as well, called Zettaien (absolute edge); your power is kido based embers you control with your hand to control and manipulate their path; it suits you as a cowards weapon. This however is a pure combat style zanpakuto and its power is simple enough for a greenhorn like you to understand; every time it cuts into my enemy, it forms another tooth in the blade and for each one, it increases my offensive power per tooth," Seiryo would explain how his shikai worked while telling Kaitou he wasn't impressed by a kido based zanpakuto as well as his earlier use of kido. More of Kaitou's blood would be dripping off his shikai's blade and a burning passion and rage filled Seiryo's eyes, taking a guard stance as he waited for a response, in case he tried to attack him while he responded.

As he expected, Seiryo broke free of the Bakudō with ease. Having always been more skilled with Hadō, Kaitou did not expect the skill to last long, but he was hoping that his opponent would be paralyzed before the bladed embers hit him, so he could have gotten some damage in. Powering through his embers, Kaitou watched as Seiryo closed the distance between them, but brought up his own blade to prevent  the slash from his opponent from damaging him as he backed off and explained how his shikai worked before getting into a defensive pose.

"You speak of honor and disrespect, you call me 'Greenhorn' and continue to insult me time and time again." With a flick of his wrist, Kaitou had the embers he already had out begin circling back around and move at Seiryo from behind, while he slashed Caliburn to create more which would cause the attack to come from all sides. "As much as I'd like this fight to drag on so I can enjoy it, I can't allow your constant disrespect to go unanswered, you arrogant child."

As much as Kaitou did not want to use Kidō in this fight at the beginning, he needed to rely on it to help him in this fight. The one thing that Seiryo was correct about was that Kaitou wasn't as skilled he'd like to be, and he needed to use everything he had available to him to win this. Extending his left palm flatly at his opponent, Kaitou spoke again.

"Disintegrate, you black dog of Rodanini! Sprinkled on the bones of the beast, Sharp tower, red crystal, steel ring. Move and become the wind, stop and become the calm. Look upon yourself with horror and then claw out your own throat! The sound of warring spears fills the empty castle! Haodō#63, Bakudō#9: Raikoho and Geki!" Kaitou was lucky that he was skilled enough with Kido to be able to utilize Nijū Eishō, the art of combining two kido incantations into one, so he could cast both Kidōs at the same time. As both traveled at his opponent, Kaitou's shunpo closed the gap between them again as his sword was swung from below, attempting to slice from the left waist to the man's right shoulder.
technique log
Name: [永遠の怒り]Eien no Ikari, Eternal Fury
Effect: Every swing of Caliburn releases a hundred tiny bladed embers. These embers will proceed directly at the angle Caliburn was swung at, are as powerful as Hadō#4, and can be destroyed by being struck directly. Kaitou can control these embers and move them around by using his left hand, while his right hand holds the sword. The embers produced by this technique are treated as two tiers lower than Kaitou, for the purposes of attacks destroying them. Kaitou can have 500 embers at a time if he's wielding Caliburn, and by using the First Flame technique, his limit is doubled.

Spell Type: Hadō
Spell Number: #63
Spell Incantation: "Sprinkled on the bones of the beast! Sharp tower, red crystal, steel ring. Move and become the wind, stop and become the calm. The sound of warring spears fills the empty castle!"
Spell Effect: The caster uses this spell by raising the hand facing towards what he his going to be firing at and opening his hand to his palm, gathering yellow energy, similar to #32, but forming in front of the palm and with lightning covering the orb before, at the caster's command, it fires as a stream of lightning energy, shaped to look like a lightning strike towards the target which explodes violently in a destructive cloud of lightning, causing both explosive damage and electrical damage at once, results vary from person to person.
